Continuing my belated review kick, this 130 piece again featuring art from Dee Rogers is an excellent teaser puzzle. Now there are a fair number of fish-oriented teasers (e.g. Tropical Punch series (Candy Thun), Bubbles (also Dee), and more) this one stands out for the art more grounded in realism. The trout and fly fishing lures are rendered with greater realism than is typical for Stave's custom made puzzles.
I also think in terms of Dee's puzzle œuvre it is quite atypical with perhaps Pheasantly Pleasing (why do I keep beating up on that puzzle? ;) being the closest in terms of the detail work. Comparing this puzzle to Dee's Bubbles, which is similarly fish-themed is helpful. Bubbles feels a bit psychadelic/rainbow infused and not particularly realistic.
The rainbow trout here feels very real, whether it is caught or escaping the fly fisherman is for you to decide, but the art is a real plus to this one.
Difficulty wise, even assembling the fish's body is a decent challenge and then the wavy frame is a beautiful touch. But getting all those fly-lures into the tumbler cavity, that was a huge challenge for me and quite fun as well.
Anyhow, this is a great puzzle and for me quite unique in my collection.
